It represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty, holding a torch in her right hand and a tablet in her left hand inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence. The statue's full name is "Liberty Enlightening the World," and it has become an iconic landmark in the United States, attracting millions of visitors each year.
